While I appreciate a good white wine less focused on fruits, this came with a bitter bite and an after taste of dried fruits and vegetables that I could not get use to. Other reviewers have described this wine as tasting like asparagus and green figs, holding off-dry lemony flavours and balance. I'm not certain if balance works, as there is this prominent bitterness to the wine that I can't help but over-focus on. I agree with lemony but not so much the off-dry. Off-dry signifies sweetness in there and I do not come across any sweetness in this wine. If asparagus means unripe or overripe, bitter asparagus then I could agree with that description to some extent. I don't know the flavour of green figs but I don't see ripe figs in this wine at all. Overall, this could be a descent wine for someone else, just not me.

So there IS flavour to Bubbly wine. Who knew. Its still hard to pick out and there isn't much in the way of complexity and depth but I most definitely see the usefulness of sparking wine for foods with heavy oil or creamy fats. I would definitely remind individuals to not drink the wine until after you are done with the bite of food as the bubbly will do away with the flavour and texture like paint thinner on paint.

The fancy cap gives this wine an extra day's life but it died right down by the third day. I like the strawberry flavour of this particular sparkling beverage but do yearn for more complexity. For the price, I can't really complain.

BOTTOM OF THE BOTTLE:

I honestly did not taste this when it was first opened fresh five weeks ago. That being said, I must also say, five weeks In, while it has lost some of its pizzaz, including much of its punch-line flavour, it still works as a wine to be consumed for no special occasion. It would serve its purpose as a beach party wine or something consumed when tasting the beverage is no longer necessary, as an equivalent to a party keg or for a group needing something cheap to make do. I have had far worse wines which I had refused to continue consuming. With this wine, I gulped a glass down fast and went straight for another. Of course, this is easily done when the wine tastes closer to flavoured water and still has good mouthwatering acidity. I even poured a glass for two friends who both finished the glass. A good sign by any standards.

BOTTOM OF THE BOTTLE (BOTTOM LINE):

It took me awhile to understand this wine but I'm finally getting an idea of its character. It doesn't taste of fruits at all, it tastes of the peels and skins and rinds of fruits mixed with grassy and herbaceous elements. I like the idea of this wine. I do. It has unfathomable potential in today's cuisine world geared towards the exotic of eastern spices and lighter components. This wine posses the exotic. Many say that wine was not meant to pair with eastern dishes and spice. But an exotic dish needs an exotic wine. This isn't a wine for lovers of the fruit flavours of wine. This is for those who seek something else. I saw a review for the 2011 white beach house blend and in this review by the Good Wine Guru it was said best with "the best description of the 2011 Beach House White is “green”. There’s plenty of citrus on the nose and in the mouth, but a hint of herbaceous notes comes through on the finish, and while that’s certainly not a bad thing, I also know it’s not for everybody. "

Personally I found the price a little steep for the alcohol level, youth and simplicity in character. Perhaps other vintage might fare better with their higher alcohol content. They may then contain bigger and more layered flavours. If you are looking to get drunk, the alcohol content is far too low to do that while sharing the bottle. Either don't pick this one to get drunk on, or don't share. If you like apple juice, this might be the bottle for you! With the soft light body and flavour I would suggest making this more of a summer drink in the sun to have on its own or paired with lighter flavoured foods sporting similar lemon or lime characteristics.
